Annual professional development funding is available to both BCGEU and M&P staff.

Over the next few months, the BCGEU Support Staff PD adjudication committee hopes to host workshops that will cover what activities are eligible for PD funding and how to apply. Until those workshops are announced, you can find more information on the BCGEU PD website. You can also contact Lorna Campbell, who sits on the committee.

Information on M&P PD funding is also available on the HR website.

UBC Okanagan a FireSmart campus

Risk Management and Campus Security are reminding you to be cautious during the extreme dry fire conditions on and around campus. Please contact Campus Security or call 911 immediately if you see smoke or fire on or near campus grounds.

Our very own Security Manager Mike Gesi knows firsthand how fast fire can spread through a community. Mike is a Paid Call Fire Officer with Lake Country Fire Rescue. As the duty officer, he was the initial Incident Commander for the Lake Country wildfire. He says, "The speed this fire spread and threatened homes is a real warning to all of us... It was one of the most challenging incidents in my 29 years in the fire service. I really hope we can avoid any others like it this summer."

Facilities Management has been fire-treating the campus according to UBCO's Design Guidelines. Our Security Managers are trained to use "Squirty," the fire suppression UTV that was purchased in 2016.

For more information on UBC Okanagan's wildfire preparedness, go to the Emergency Procedures website.
